Alec Egan's paintings are characterized by an indulgent yet calculated use of oil paint, applied in dynamic strokes that accentuate the diverse materiality of his medium. He is a storyteller, constructing a fictitious nostalgia rooted in the universal impulse to idolize memories of the past. His work scrutinizes the rituals of American domesticity by emphasizing the mythological value of accumulated objects and design trends, which take center stage in his unoccupied rooms. Each new painting adds layers of detail to a long narrative just begun.

Representing a period of intensive work, the paintings published here were featured in the following solo exhibitions: Close to Home at Freight + Volume, New York, NY, 2015; Sanctuary House at Ampersand Gallery, Portland, OR, 2016; and Welcome Home, a site specific work at The California Heritage Museum, Santa Monica, CA, 2017. Alec Egan lives and works in Venice, California. He received his MFA in 2013 from Otis College of Art and Design.
