JASON BRINKERHOFF

Paintings and Drawings

May 15 to 18, 2014

Art Market San Francisco
Fort Mason Center-Festival Pavilion

Ampersand is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new paintings and works on paper by Bay Area artist Jason Brinkerhoff at Art Market San Francisco. Brinkerhoff's 2013 exhibition at Ampersand, HEAD FAKE, featured abstracted drawings of women wrestlers/fighters alongside equally ambiguous portraits that he terms X HEADS. Both bodies of work served as a departure point for a small-edition book published by Ampersand that reveals aspects of Brinkerhoff's studio practice, in particular the collected ephemera and vernacular photography that informs and inspires his work. The drawings exhibited at Art Market San Francisco continue his exhaustive exploration of the female form, art historical allusions and the nuanced materiality of mark making itself. Employing diverse materials, Brinkerhoff captures not only the seduction latent in select poses, but also the sensuality of dynamic line work in graphite, ink, colored pencil, wax pastel and acrylic.
