SURRENDER FLAG
Joshua Abelow, Victoria Reynolds, Roger
Anderson, Heather Cavalieri and Adam Winner
August 27 to September 28, 2014
Ampersand is pleased to present Surrender Flag, an exhibition featuring works on paper, photographic prints and paintings by Joshua Abelow, Victoria Reynolds, Roger Anderson, Heather Cavalieri and Adam Winner. Waving a white flag signifies a moment of surrender, a desire to cease aggression and communicate. It's the starting point where a new language is employed toward a different type of resolution. For our purposes, the title Surrender Flag represents a white space on which each artist intervenes with varying degrees of subtlety or violence. It's the moment when an empty space takes on the shapes, colors and textures that are singular to each artist's language of intent. Further, just as the shapes that comprise any given flag convey a multitude of meanings, each artist is trying to tell us something specific, yet often times it's enough to let that all go and surrender to the simple act of looking.
