HEAD FAKE is a conceptual taxonomy of source material that functions in Brinkerhoff’s studio as input to the drawing processes at hand. The book is comprised of collected vintage photos, newspaper clippings, fashion spreads and video stills, which Brinkerhoff refers to as objects. The singular focus on heads, in this case all female, provides a specific container by which he can present the range of source material he employs. It also draws attention to the psychological detachments that operate in the work’s creation, the head being separate from the body and the container where boundaries of influence are by turns at odds and in harmony with the mental states that condition results.

Brinkerhoff’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at White Columns and ZieherSmith in New York & was part of a recent group exhibition titled Shape Shifters at ACME in Los Angeles. His drawings are in the collections of Charles Saatchi and the Dallas Museum of Art.
